I’ve been asked for container door direction – what does this mean?
Door direction will depend on the site where you want the container placed. Our Hammar Sideloaders only operate on the driver’s side (RHS) of the vehicle. Consider if the truck will need to drive forward into position or reverse to place the container. Will the doors of the container need to be closest to the cab of the truck (doors front) or closest to the rear of the trailer (doors rear)? It is important to establish door direction 24 hours prior to container delivery to avoid extra time and charges.
If you have requested a standard trailer delivery, the door direction will always be rear.
Why does my container need to be weighed?
In 2016, new legislation for SOLAS Marine Order 42 came into effect. Its purpose is to improve accountability for all container weights and therefore improve safety for all those in the supply chain, particularly sea vessels. All export containers must have a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) before being transported to the wharf. More information can be found here: https://www.amsa.gov.au/vessels/ship-safety/cargoes-and-dangerous-goods/faqs/index.asp
All containers need to be accompanied by a Container Weight Declaration (CWD). If your paperwork does not already comply with CWD requirement, please contact our office for a blank copy.
Can you arrange the booking with the shipping line/rail operator and complete all the appropriate customs documents?
No we can’t. Koelen Cartage specializes in landside transportation only. We recommend you speak to a licenced customs broker or freight forwarder shipping agent to complete the transaction for you. A small fee now can save you from an expensive and frustrating disaster later. You can find a licenced broker or check their registration here: https://www.cbfca.com.au
Can you transport 2 x 20’ containers together on a sideloader?
Yes we can, however weight restrictions will apply.
